May 13 is final IRS TAC walk-in Saturday of 2023
Monday, May 08, 2023
Once this year's April tax filing deadline passed, most Americans were done with their annual Internal Revenue Service interaction.
Some taxpayers, however, are still dealing with other, non-filing federal tax issues.
They might be able to get some in-person help resolving those tax matters from IRS staff at one the agency's Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TACs) across the country. Such help usually requires taxpayers to make a weekday appointment.
But on May 13, the IRS' final walk-in Saturday of 2023 will mean that filers whose local TAC is open can come in, no appointment needed, for some personal help with their tax problems.
Forty-five IRS TACs will be open on Saturday, May 13, in 26 states and 2 U.S. territories. The offices' hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time.
TAC help options: During the special Saturday hours, IRS personnel will be able to help individuals with all routine TAC services except for making cash payments.
Those routine services include such things as getting tax forms, setting up or making adjustments to a taxpayer account, resolving procedural inquiries, obtaining an Identity Protection PIN, and establishing up a tax payment plan.
If the staff at the open TAC aren't able to solve the problem, they'll provide the taxpayer with a referral for the needed services. IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) employees also may be available at some open TACs to help with some issues.
The IRS Services Guide, also known as IRS Publication 5136, also has more on the agency's overall service options.
You can find exactly which services are offered at the TACs open this Saturday by checking directly with the offices using IRS.gov's Contact Your Local Office website.
When and where: The TACs open this coming Saturday, May 13, are the last of this year's four special Saturday help days. The first was in February. The second TAC Saturday opening was in March. The third special walk-in event was April 8.
The TACs scheduled to be open on May 13 are listed alphabetically by state and territory in the following table. However, the IRS suggests you double check (see the contact link mentioned above) before hearing to your local TAC, as availability may change without notice.

Special considerations: During the upcoming face-to-face TAC Saturdays, professional foreign language interpretation will be available in many languages through an over-the-phone translation service.
For deaf or hard of hearing individuals who need sign language interpreter services, IRS staff will schedule appointments for a later date. If you need the interpreter service, you also can make an appointment yourself by calling TTY/TDD (800) 829-4059.
Preparing for TAC tax help: While you can walk into a TAC that's open on Saturday without having to make an appointment, you do need to come prepared.
Regardless of your tax question or problem, you need to bring the following information —
- Current government-issued photo identification,
- Social Security cards for members of their household, including spouse and dependents (if applicable),
- Any IRS letters or notices received and related documents, and
- For identity verification services, two forms of identification and, if filed, a copy of the tax return for the year in question.
During the visit, IRS staff also may ask you for a current mailing address, an email address, and bank account information so that you can receive payments or refunds by direct deposit.
More planned for TACs: In announcing this final walk-in Saturday of the year, the IRS noted that it has added hundreds of employees to TACs nationwide following passage of the Inflation Reduction Act last year, which included nearly $80 billion for the IRS to use over the next decade to improve its operations.
In addition, the IRS said it has reopened or opened more than 25 local TAC offices since last year, and will add more employees at these locations in the coming months.
"IRS employees worked hard this tax season to provide more help for people, and the Saturday hours helped many taxpayers outside of normal business hours," said IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel. "The special Saturday hours this weekend are part of a larger effort underway as we continue to improve and work on transforming the IRS to serve taxpayers and the nation."
