IRS seizes Lindsay Lohan accounts and IRS bumps up mileage deduction rates

Two extremes of tax planning were featured last week at my other tax blog.

Bankrate Taxes Blog iconThe week began with the news that the Internal Revenue Service had seized Lindsay Lohan's bank accounts. The troubled actress allegedly owes almost $234,000 in unpaid federal taxes for 2009 and 2010 tax years.

And we thought things were bad for LiLo because of New York nightclub incidents, Los Angeles traffic accidents and reviews and ratings for "Liz and Dick."

Other taxpayers, however, are paying close attention to all things IRS, including the annual mileage adjustments.

These figures are especially important if you use your auto for business, medical purposes or moving. In those cases, you might be able to deduct miles traveled. And in 2013, the amount for each category rises by a penny.
