Employee/contractor misclassification and fiscal cliff fears

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm thankful that there's enough going on in the tax world to provide blog topics here and last week at my other tax blog.

Bankrate Taxes Blog iconThe official arrival on Black Friday of the holiday shopping season also means the official arrival of the holiday seasonal worker season. But worker misclassification can lead to tax and labor law violations and cost wrongly categorized workers tax money and benefits.

Sharing the seasonal spotlight this year is the fiscal cliff, that combination of expiring tax breaks and automatic spending cuts that will push America -- and us taxpayers -- over the fiancial edge on Jan. 1, 2013. And it's not just hyperventilating TV pundits raising alarms. Most Americans fear that the fiscal cliff will have a major effect on the U.S. economy.
