Buffett Rule push, Tax Day driving dangers and State taxes due, too

Tax Day is almost here, so that meant extra posting last week at my other tax blog.

Bankrate Taxes Blog icon Obama hit the road last week to rally support for the Buffett Rule. The prez wants to include in any tax reform effort a rule that would impose a minimum 30 percent tax rate on individuals who make $1 million or more.

While most taxpayers are probably not happy with what they're paying Uncle Sam, right now they're not worrying about overall tax reform. They just want to finish their 2011 returns and get them on the way to the IRS. But taxpayers who hit the road on April 17 had better be careful. A new study shows that auto fatalities increase on Tax Day.

Finally, don't forget your state taxes. Most states that require residents to file tax returns also follow the federal filing deadline.

You can check out new posts each Tuesday and Thursday, and other days when tax topics are popping, at my Bankrate Taxes Blog. And if you happen to miss them there, you can find a wrap-up here each Saturday.
