IRS has $1 billion for taxpayers who didn't file their 2008 tax returns

Unclaimed 2008 tax year federal refunds, state by state

The IRS has refunds totaling more than $1 billion awaiting claim by around 1 million people who didn't file a federal income tax return for the 2008 tax year.

If you're one of them, you must file that prior-year return by this filing season's deadline, April 17.

The median possible tax refund from 2008 is $637. But as the list below shows, residents of some states could get more than that ... as long as they file their old return by next month's due date.
