Tax TAP-ping in Chicago

Irs_logo_with_text This post comes to you from the Chicago Hilton on lovely South Michigan Avenue. I arrived a couple of hours ago to help fly the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) flag at the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum going on here this week.

I attended a Tax Forum several years ago in Orlando and found it very useful. Hundreds of tax practioners go to these annual events held across the country to get the latest scoop on tax law, compliance and tax-related products.

In additon to seminars, attendees can browse the exhibit area's booths where representatives from the IRS, business, finance and tax software companies showcase their products and services.

Tap_logo_small_2 TAP doesn't have an official booth, but we have a table in the conference area. I'll be nabbing passersby and talking up TAP efforts. We'll also be attending some IRS Oversight Board and Taxpayer Advocate Service sessions, as well as holding our own TAP discussion group.

It should be interesting and educational to be on the other side of the tax table here in Chicago.

You can read more about TAP in this blog post, or at the Panel's official Web page.

And you can find out about upcoming IRS Tax Forums here. On tap (although I'm not sure which ones TAP will attend) in August are Forums in New York City and what I call the Disney specials in Anaheim, Calif., and Orlando.

There's also the Tax Forum that probably will have the most registrants of any, although a goodly number of them might skip official tax events to participate in more appealing local activities. I'm talking, of course, about the one in Las Vegas.
